New Delhi. Crude oil supply has been lacking since the drone attack on the Saudi Arabian state-run oil company. After this, news is now coming that domestic oil marketing companies can ration the cooking gas. It is possible that Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited may decide to ration mated LPG gas in the short term to deal with LPG gas shortage. LPG gas rationing means that only those customers who have only one cylinder will be given preference.
LPG shortage due to supply interruptions
Livint wrote in a report quoting a senior officer of an oil company that at present there is no shortage of LPG, but supply has decreased after the attack last week. The official has said that government companies are meeting the demand of customers. Those holding one cylinder will be given more preference than those holding two cylinders. The official said that the alternate source of LPG has been arranged and its first shipment will arrive in a week.
Why the supply of cooking gas decreased
On 3 September, domestic LPG supplies were reduced following a fire at a government oil and gas company in Navi Mumbai. After this, the supply of crude oil and cooking gas was interrupted after the drone attack on Saudi Aramco in September. LPG supply to Mangalore Refining and Petrochemicals remained closed last month. The reason for this shutdown in supply was the landslide after heavy rains in nearby areas.
Government gave assurance
According to this report by Livemint, the Oil Ministry has ensured that there will be no shortage of LPG supplies during the festive season. A new batch of cooking gas from Adnock will arrive on time. Currently, there were some cases of shortage of supply in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab and Goa. An official of a state-owned oil company has said that a tender was floated to meet the LPG demand, which received a better response. There will be no supply barrier from Navi Mumbai till 15 October.
