Don't cancel! Now you can transfer your IRCTC ticket
Ah! This comes as a huge relief. While booking train tickets online, you might have made a mistake via the IRCTC website. Sometimes you might have simply wanted to transfer your booked ticket to someone else in your family or friends? IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) now allows passengers to make these changes in their tickets but there's a catch: passengers can avail this facility only once as said by an IRCTC official.
If you are wondering how to avail this service, follow these simple steps.
Change passenger name
  • Take a print out of the ticket
  • Go to your nearest railway reservation counter
  • Take original ID proof of the passenger travelling in the ticket along with a photocopy of it
  • Ask the counter officer to change the passenger's name in the ticket
Note: To avail this facility you need to visit the reservation office a minimum 24 hours before the train's scheduled departure.
To transfer your ticket to a family member
As mentioned earlier, IRCTC also allows travellers to transfer their ticket to someone in their blood relation such as father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband and wife.
As per IRCTC, the traveller needs to bring a print out of the ticket along with the original ID proof of the new traveller along with the proof of blood relation to the reservation desk.
Indian Railways has also simplified the process of getting train status, booking status and PNR Status via WhatsApp in partnership with online website MakeMyTrip. All you need to do is save the official WhatsApp number on your phone, to get the details and send several keywords such as PNR status and more to get the information on your mobile.
