The song 'My Name is Anthony Gonsalves' was composed by duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The character Anthony Gonsalves is named after a music teacher of Pyarelal who goes by the name of 'Anthony Gonsalves' and was one of the most famous music arrangers in Bombay in the 1950s and1960s. He had among his students the likes of RD Burman apart from Pyarelal.

The story of Amar Akbar Anthony is really interesting and director Manmohan Desai got the idea while reading a newspaper! He read a news piece of a drunk man named Jackson, who was fed up of his life and hence decided to drop his three children in the park. Similarly, in the film, Pran takes his children and drops them in a park at the beginning of the film. In the story, the eldest kid is adopted by a Hindu police officer, and the other two by a Muslim tailor and a Catholic priest, respectively.

The line, "sophisticated rhetorician intoxicated with the exuberance of your own verbosity" that is spoken by Anthony when he emerges from the Easter egg is an almost exact quotation from a speech given by Benjamin Disraeli in 1878. Disraeli (who was referring to W.E. Gladstone) used the word "inebriated" rather than "intoxicated".

It might come as a surprise but there is an interesting goof in the film. In the introduction scene between Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, Rishi's character Akbar Illahabadi calls Neetu Singh's character Dr Salma by her real name and not with her character's name. This goof is noticeable enough, but no efforts were taken to correct it in the movie. This is the scene when Akbar comes to Dr Salma for a health check-up and he refers to Dr Salma as Neetu.

Amitabh on kbc spoke of the film when Neetu and Ranbhir Kapoor had come to promote Besharam, Amitabh said that Manmohan Desai never cared for logic, he was laughing the scene when three brothers give blood to Nirupa Roy and another scene when Neetu checks Parveen's pulse to find out if she is pregnant.

When the movie released it was a huge hit in West Indies.

Disraeli (who was referring to William Ewart Gladstone) used the word "inebriated" rather than "intoxicated.

Director Manmohan Desai got the idea for the movie from a news item he read in an evening newspaper. An alcoholic man named Jackson was fed up with his life and one day he packed his three children in a car and decided to drop them off in the park. It can be rightly said where the news items ends director Manmohan Desai's story begins. He twisted the story a bit by forgetting the alcoholic part and ensured that when the father returns he finds that all his three children have gone missing. In the story, the eldest kid is adopted by Hindu police officer and the other two by a Muslim tailor and a Catholic priest.
