HIGHLIGHTS

  • Yamaha MT-15 gets a six-speed gearbox along with a slipper clutch.
  • There is a telescopic suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear.
  • It is available in two colour options -- Metallic Black and Dark Matt Blue.

India Yamaha Motor today launched the MT-15 at a starting price of Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will challenge the likes of KTM 125 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 200 and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.

Yamaha MT-15 sports an aggressive design and is based on Yamaha YZF R15 V3.0. It features a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, four-valve, 155 cc, fuel injected engine along with Variable Valve Actuation system on a delta box frame. The motor produces 19.3 PS of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. Yamaha MT-15 gets a six-speed gearbox along with a slipper clutch.

In January 2019, India Yamaha Motor had launched dual channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) enabled YZF R15 Version 3.0 and claimed that it was the first 150 cc model with such a safety feature. Yamaha MT-15 features disc brakes both up front (245 mm) and at the rear. However, it gets only a single channel ABS and not a dual channel one as in seen on Yamaha YZF R15 Version.

Yamaha MT-15 gets a telescopic suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear. There are LED headlights as well. The bike has a length of 2,020 mm and width of 800 mm. Its height is 1,070 mm and wheelbase 1,335 mm. The weight of the naked bike is 138 kg (with oil and a full fuel tank).

While Yamaha YZF R15 V3.0 ABS starts at an introductory price of Rs 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), a starting price of Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) does not seem too much for a bike of Yamaha MT-15's quality. It is available in two colour options -- Metallic Black and Dark Matt Blue.
