Xiaomi has recently surpassed Samsung and have become the No. 1 smartphone brand in the Indian market. The company had achieved this incredible feat because of their awesome value for money smartphones including Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4 and Mi A1. Another reason is going offline; tying up with multiple retail brands and opening their own Mi Homes. The service has also improved if we compare it to 2016. The advertising budget has also gone up. So all these factors have propelled Xiaomi to a stellar run. However, another important factor is competition.
Xiaomi smartphones in the budget segment were not challenged by other smartphone competitors to a great extent for the last couple of years but the scene has changed now. Hence, it will be very difficult for Xiaomi to continue its momentum even after launching the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Do not think that we are criticising the recently launched smartphones from Xiaomi but we are simply stating that the competition has gone up. The biggest competitor of Xiaomi in India is Honor. It now boasts of a stellar lineup of budget smartphones that include Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X and Honor 9i. They have brilliant design, great cameras and awesome pricing. Also, Honor is selling offline now and are looking to build a strong market share in the coming years.
Another important point is Honor beats Xiaomi in the premium smartphone segment as the company's Honor 8 Pro and Honor View 10 has done quite well whereas Xiaomi's Mi MIX 2 has not performed very well in India. Hence, in order to continue its momentum in India, Xiaomi has to win the high-end segment as well and compete with the likes of OnePlus, Honor, Samsung and LG.
Do let us know about your opinions regarding will Xiaomi be able to retain their No. 1 position in the Indian smartphone market after the launch of the Redmi Note 5 series or not?
