'We will enjoy this and it will help us,' Rashford told reporters in the mix zone.

'We had a lot of chances. The challenge for us now is in these games is to finish those and do that for 90 minutes then we can be a lot more ruthless.

'We have to take positives and work on negatives.'

Rashford made himself a threatening presence for United all evening, and followed Solskjaer's instructions by using his blistering pace in order to play on the counter.

Several chances had also fallen Rashford's way after his opening strike, but the 22-year-old admitted he could have widened the margin further.

'I was unlucky with a lot of chances. We could have gone in 3 or 4-0 up and the game is finished.

'That's what we can work on,' Rashford added.

Taking to social media in the aftermath of the win, Rashford went on to add further praise for his team-mates and said United dealt with everything thrown in their direction.

'Can’t beat a derby win. Stood up to EVERYTHING thrown at us & got what we deserved,' Rashford wrote on Twitter.

'Unreal performance from Fred. Talk about bringing fire to the big occasion.'

Much to the delight of United fans he added: 'Manchester is red.'
