WWE Rumor: John Cena To Face A Former WWE Champion At Wrestlemania 35

John Cena on the very first edition of 2019. He is always a marquee attraction on the show no matter what being the franchise player of the company. Plus, we received a big announcement from him on the Road to Wrestlemania. He announced to competing at the 32nd annual Royal Rumble event on January 27th. However, he did not show up for real channeling a kayfabe injury. Going forward, his status in the WWE is in jeopardy.

This brings us to the question that who is going to be the potential opponent for John Cena at Wrestlemania 35 if he does compete. As per the Rumor Roundup on Cagesideseats.com, A four-time WWE Champion Kurt Angle is about to face him on that night. As reported previously, the WWE Hall of Famer will compete in his last WWE match at Wrestlemania bidding adieu to the fans. This would be the last time that we would see the Olympic Gold Medalist competing in a match.

Previously, Reports from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested that an interesting option was in-store for John Cena for Wrestlemania 35. None other than the NXT recruit Lars Sullivan will take on him at the showcase of immortals. He is still due with the big-time debut that could have set up the match.

The source noted that Lars Sullivan was about to receive a monster push on the main roster. This is certain considering Vince McMahon always loves to treat the big guys in a special way. Plus, the vignettes airing on TV on a daily basis also suggested the same. This push would allow him to win some big-time matches leading up to the match against John Cena. It was reportedly a ‘confirmed’ bout for Wrestlemania 35.

However, an anxiety attack or a potential injury could have scrapped this. There’s no confirmed update on when we will finally see him on TV. John Cena has become a part-time performer in the WWE whereas Lars Sullivan will be ne the bigger attraction following his debut. So it was quite evident that the behemoth was the favorite one to come up as the winner in this rumored matchup. But for now, the Cenation Leader might get to have a big win against Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania giving him a proper send-off.
