WATCH- ISRO releases breathtaking photos and video of earth captured by Chandrayaan 2

The ISRO took to Twitter to share a set of breathtaking photos and a video transmitted by Chandrayaan 2 while orbiting the earth. The image below was how the earth looked from the space by Chandrayaan 2 on Saturday at 5.29 pm.

The second photo, taken two minutes later, was equally spectacular.

The Rs 983 crore mission had come 11 years after the Indian Space Research Organisation’s successful first lunar mission, Chandrayaan 1. On that occasion, Chandrayaan 1 had made more than 3,400 orbits around the moon and was operational for 312 days till 29 August 2009.

Speaking after the launch, ISRO Chairman K Sivan said, “I am extremely happy to announce that GSLV Mark 3 successfully injected the Chandrayaan 2 into orbit.” He said that it was the ‘beginning of a historical journey for India.’ Sivan also referred to the technical snag spotted and fixed by his ‘intelligent’ scientists in time for today’s successful launch.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India will send a human into the orbit by 2022. The lunar landing of Chandrayaan 2 is set to take place on 7 September. Modi himself is likely to make himself to watch the event live.
