The Management Should Back Rishabh Pant To Regain Form – Virender Sehwag

Rishabh Pant has failed to live upto the expectations after he emerged as the first-choice wicket-keeper batsman of Team India after MS Dhoni made himself unavailable. His poor outings have raised speculations over his place in the playing XI. But former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has urged the management to back the cricketer and help him regain form.

After the World Cup, Pant is being asked to bat at number 4 for the team in shorter formats of the game. It is a position, which requires a lot of experience in handling the things as per the need of the hour. But the Delhi wicket-keeper batsman has failed to deliver managing to post only one fifty so far against West Indies and South Africa.

Poor returns with the bat have increased pressure on Rishabh Pant which has taken a toll on him. There are speculations that either of Sanju Samson or Ishan Kishan might replace underfire Pant in the limited-overs. But Virender Sehwag feels the management should back the cricketer and help him regain form. The former cricketer picked examples from his career to justify his statement.

“I flopped in 20 innings before I scored. But then I had the support of the team management. I could regain form because of that support without changing my game. Similarly, MS (Dhoni) played his natural game and India lost a match which prompted skipper (Rahul) Dravid to speak to MS,” Sehwag said to Times Now.

“It brought about a change. MS became a performer as Rahul wanted him to. Of course, he did curtail his natural game and learned the art of finishing the game. I think Pant should also look to become a performer. He should concentrate on his shot selection,” Sehwag added.

Virender Sehwag, who has seen Rishabh Pant from close quarters, hailed the youngster saying that he will serve Indian cricket for 15 years. Pant has shown abilities to be a match-winner and will only get better with days playing more games.

“He has awesome talent and if improves his shot selection, I am sure he will serve India for the next 15 years,” Sehwag concluded.
