Shahrukh Khan; whose last release, Anand L Rai's ZERO, along with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma tanked miserably at the box office, is now being very cautious about the forthcoming projects that he will give his nod to.
Amid all of this; comes the news of Shahrukh Khan being a part of Saare Jahan Se Achha, a biopic on Rakesh Sharma who is an astronaut. However; soon reports began doing rounds that the Baazigar actor has chosen to step out of the film!
While many speculated that after the debacle of ZERO; Shahrukh did not want to experiment with another space film, now the film's writer, Anjum Rajabali has broken his silence around the much-debated topic of Shahrukh' reason for quitting the film.
Rajabali; who was speaking at a panel discussion in the FICCI Frames, rubbish all of these rumors. He was quoted saying," If you're asking me, there was a problem with the script (of Zero). Himanshu (Sharma, the writer) is a very talented person but things go wrong sometimes. I don't think he said no to Saare Jahan Se Achcha because of the space (angle). I think he's also pretty shaken up, he was banking a lot on that."
Rajabali also said that when a film fails people tend to blame everything except the script of the film. He said," I will make a slightly more basic point here. This whole practice and culture of postmortem, of analyzing what went wrong hasn't really caught on. What happens is then, there are knee-jerk reactions rather than responses even from the makers."
Further speaking he said," Oh! It could be because of the space and hence we put two and two together. Oh, it's because the time wasn't right, nobody wants to see a disabled person in a star's role.' It could also well be that there was a problem with the DNA of the script. I think the writer should also be involved in that honest introspection to be able to determine where did things go wrong."
Rajabali; who has also penned Farhan Akhtar's next sports biopic ‘Toofan', finally concluded with," Most of the times, when a film doesn't connect in spite of the fact that the idea was good, the director was talented and the stars were attractive, it is because the script has gone wrong. That is where we need to be investing in. Allow more space for the writing to really emerge. You have to cook it on a low gas. There is no pressure cooker writing, which takes place."
