The Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has taken a digital path for starting his election campaign for the upcoming general elections. The former UP CM will be holding 'e-chaupal' at his strong hold Kannauj on Friday morning.

According to the information given by Twitter India, the former UP CM's chaupal will begin at 11 am where he will be interacting with people by taking questions on this prominent social media platform. He will also have a direct conversation with the participants.

The chaupal will be held in Kannauj, the parliamentary constituency of his wife Dimple Yadav where hundreds of party workers are going to gather. The event will also be attended by senior officials of Twitter India.

Speaking to India Today, SP national spokesperson Juhie Singh said "Thousands of people have posted their questions on Twitter including journalists. Our party chief would be giving his response to the people. He will also be telling about the benefits of social media. This is a good start to our election campaign. In the chaupal organised with the help of Twitter, people belonging to Kannauj will also be gathering in large number to interact with our party chief."

There are also reports that the SP chief would be contesting Lok Sabha elections from Kannauj, the constituency which he represented for 12 years. His wife won the by-polls by a huge margin after he became the chief minister of UP in 2012.

The proposed alliance between SP-BSP and Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) is likely to be announced this month after Akhilesh met Mayawati in Delhi last week at her residence. Sources say that the Congress will not be a part of mahagthbandhan in UP, however both the leaders have decided not to field candidates from Amethi and Raebareli- the parliamentary constituency represented by Rahul Gandhi and her mother Sonia respectively.
