Surprisingly, Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler appeared on the scene for no whatsoever reasons to ruin the main event. This caused Reigns to come up short by the end of the match.
Earlier on SmackDown, King Corbin cut a heel promo on Roman Reigns blaming him for the NXT invasion angle from last week. He also pointed out how The Shield brethren do not have his back, anymore. The promo earned tremendous heat from the SmackDown audience to set up the main event match for later the night.
Roman Reigns started the contest with full momentums by leveling Corbin with a big boot and following up with a Superman Punch. Suddenly, Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler ran out to distract him, out of nowhere.
The former Raw tag team champions received a Superman Punch and Spear for their misdeeds. But that was enough to give upper-hand to the 2019 King of the Ring winner. He caught Reigns with the End of Days to pick up a huge win on SmackDown.
Earlier WWE.com hyped up the main event of SmackDown with the following statement which was originally scheduled for last week,
“The King has been demanding respect, but The Big Dog answers to no one in his own yard. While appearing on WWE Backstage on FS1, Roman Reigns was blindside attacked by King Corbin and now the two will collide on Friday Night SmackDown.
The two adversaries are now set to meet in the aftermath of the Team Hogan-Team Flair showdown at WWE Crown Jewel. Can The Big Dog get retribution on Corbin, or will the King reign over Reigns? Find out this Friday night on SmackDown on FOX at 8/7 C.”
The match ended leaving questions as to whether Roode and Ziggler decided to interfere the match. Roman Reigns must be in hunt of these two as the storyline progresses in future. He will be out to settling the score with Corbin for sure when SmackDown airs, next week.
