- The OnePlus TV Q1 costs Rs 69,900 and the Q1 Pro costs Rs 99,900.
- OnePlus gurantees three years of Android TV updates with the OnePlus TV Q1 series.
Back in September, the tech community was all hyped with the OnePlus TV - the brand's first outing in the smart TV space. Targeting the premium TV segment, OnePlus went ahead with its mantra of offering the best technologies at reasonable prices. Hence, for almost Rs 70,000, you could buy a smart TV from OnePlus offering a 4K QLED display and looked stylish even when you aren't watching it. We also reviewed the OnePlus TV Q1 Pro at India Today Tech and were thoroughly impressed with OnePlus' first try in the smart TV space.
Following the launch, OnePlus reported good sales figures for the OnePlus TV. And that only indicates that when it comes to premium smart TVs, OnePlus is here to stay and will challenge the big players in the years to come. But what does OnePlus have in store for us in the months to come? What are its plans and whether making a move to the smart TV space has been right for OnePlus?
To get my answers, I had a conversation with Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India and he presented quite a positive forecast for the OnePlus TV's future in India.
Question: How has been the response to the OnePlus TV Q1 series in India so far?
Answer: The response that we have received from the Indian market for the OnePlus TV Q1 series has been tremendous. As per data from Counterpoint Research, we had a steady start in the TV segment capturing 1 per cent of the overall TV market share during the festive season. In the same research, in the above Rs 50,000 segment, the OnePlus TV captured 13 per cent market share during the same festive month.
From an online sales perspective, over 42 per cent of the premium TVs sold on Amazon.in were OnePlus TVs, which made it the best-selling TV among premium TVs on this platform. Additionally, the OnePlus TV 55Q1 was the best-selling model during the Amazon Great Indian Festival Sale.
This itself is a testament of the acceptance from the market
Question: OnePlus has been selling some of the best Android phones in India and doing quite well. Then why go for the premium smart TV space, given that it's dominated by Samsung and Sony?
Answer: Although the smart TV segment in India is on the rise, it is still nascent overall. We have this vision of creating a connected ecosystem between smart devices and want our users to get nothing but the best experience from our products. At OnePlus, we never settle from giving our community a seamless and smart experience with the OnePlus TV Q1 series. Since we kicked off the product development process, our goal has always been to set the standard for the future smart TV products and focusing on every single detail to make it as smart, burdenless, seamless as possible.
To us, a great TV is more than just a high-quality display. We understand how prominent a TV is for every household, even from a design/aesthetics perspective, meaning its design must be worth viewing even when the TV is turned off. OnePlus is not in the race of being the "world's first," but being the "world's best.". Our community has always been at the core of our strategy across our products, similarly for the TV we took the community feedback and integrated it into the TV.
Question: OnePlus promises 3 years of Android TV updates. How fast will the update delivery period be?
Answer: Providing the best possible experience is one of the core values for us at OnePlus. We strive to provide our users with a seamless and burdenless experience while sharing the best possible technology in testing the latest software innovations at OnePlus and curating the perfect user experience. OnePlus has one of the most robust beta testing procedures (could it be "in the world?"), which help the brand provide a fast and smooth premium experience. As we get feedback from our community, we try our best to incorporate it and provide updates regularly.?
Question: Affordable smart TVs are quite popular. Will OnePlus consider affordable variants in the future with slightly lower specs but the same software experience?
Answer: At OnePlus, our mission is to share the best possible technology with the world. We are studying the performance of our first smart TV in the market. Based on its performance and our community feedback, we will further build our product portfolio.
Question: Will we see a custom Oxygen OS interface for OnePlus smart TVs in future or will OnePlus stick to the stock Android TV interface with only the Oxygen Play app?
Answer: While we prefer keeping a clean and smooth UI on our smartphones due to how customizable Android on phone is, it is not the same case for the Android TV system. With Oxygen Play, we worked within the limitations of Android TV to provide the best possible UI. If any possibilities open up, we will continue to further work with Android to provide our TV users the same experience as our smartphone, if not better experience. Like OxygenOS, our intentions with OxygenPlay is to keep the interface clean and user-friendly.
Question: Smart TV space is content driven these days. Will OxygenPlay offer exclusive original content or partner with OTT platforms for exclusive content via the app?
Answer: There are so many possibilities for OnePlus to explore in the Smart TV segment. While OxygenPlay is the brand's key focus, it works as a content aggregator and helps our users to browse through their favourite content seamlessly. The OnePlus TV provides users with a variety of unique experience. Deep cooperation with international and international and local content providers including YouTube, Prime Video, Eros Now, Hungama, Jio Cinema, and Zee 5. The Oxygen Video application covers local features and international content, exclusive content on shelves, high-quality recommendation, and convenient content search (voice search + search aggregation) to provide users with a wonderful, burdenless viewing experience.
