- The OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition will go on sale in India from November 5.
The OnePlus 7T Pro is finally here and whether you consider it good or bad, it's not much of a drastic upgrade from the mighty impressive OnePlus 7 Pro, which has only existed for a short five months. The new phone on paper has a more powerful chipset along with a new macro camera mode as well as faster charging technology. That's it - that's all the OnePlus 7T Pro has to offer over the OnePlus 7 Pro. However, OnePlus likes exciting its fans with special edition versions of its phones and this time, the McLaren Edition makes a comeback.
The OnePlus 7T Pro gets the McLaren treatment as part of the OnePlus McLaren partnership this year. Eager OnePlus fans will remember the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition from last year that was introduced as the most advanced iteration of the OnePlus 6T with the latest and greatest tech from OnePlus fused into it. That's not the case with the 7T Pro McLaren Edition as there's nothing new this year's model is offering in terms of new specifications.
So, what's new with the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition?
On paper, the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition is essentially a high end variant of the OnePlus 7T Pro with no additional new features. The basic design is the same and so are the cameras as well as the battery and the chipset. Hence, unlike last year's McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T, which was a different phone from the regular OnePlus 6T in many ways, the 7T Pro McLaren Edition is just the same phone that wears McLaren branded clothes.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing as the OnePlus 7T Pro in itself is a mighty impressive premium smartphone. It has everything you want from a smartphone in 2019. And hence, the 7T Pro McLaren Edition, despite wearing McLaren clothes, is a great smartphone by every means.
--The 7T Pro McLaren Edition gets the 6.67-inch Optic AMOLED display with Quad HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90Hz. This is the same display from the OnePlus 7 Pro and it has proven itself to offer great viewing experiences. So, with the 7T Pro McLaren Edition, nothing different is expected as usual.
--After a long time, a T series OnePlus phone gets a new Snapdragon chip. In this case, it's the Snapdragon 855 Plus that was conceived by Qualcomm for gaming phones. The Snapdragon 855 Plus has already proven itself to be an effortless performer on the OnePlus 7T and on the 7T Pro McLaren Edition, nothing changes in this regard.
--The triple rear cameras have been carried over from the OnePlus 7 Pro but there's one new addition - a macro mode. With little hardware tweaks, OnePlus has made the camera able to shoot close-up shots of subjects from a distance as close as 2.5cm. The main 48-megapixel camera uses a Sony IMX586 sensor and its presently the best image sensor available in the market. The 16-megapixel wide-angle camera and the 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom offers great versatility. This camera was already impressive on the OnePlus 7 Pro and it retains the same performance on the 7T Pro McLaren Edition.
--The 7T Pro McLaren Edition gets the same 4085mAh battery with the faster Warp charge 30T technology.
What are McLaren special additions?
--The sporty paint job is what makes this phone a special one. The rear panel has traces of Papaya Orange around the bottom edges and camera module. The center of the panel also gets a raw carbon fiber finish that you get to see on many McLaren supercars. And the McLaren branding at the bottom looks dashing even if you aren't a fan of the brand.
--OnePlus has designed a special McLaren theme for Oxygen OS that includes Papaya Orange accents, carbon fiber finish on the notification shade, special McLaren Edition wallpapers and ringtones. However, the ringtones are similar to what we saw on the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition.
--As with every OnePlus special edition device, the 7T Pro McLaren Edition gets a custom bumper case. The case has an Alcantara finish along with carbon fiber finish, that also sports the McLaren logo.
--The Warp Charge 30T charging adapter gets an all-black treatment with a McLaren branding (as expected). The USB cable gets a braided finish and wears the Papaya Orange shade.
--And lastly, the 7T Pro McLaren Edition gets 12GB RAM as standard. The regular version only gets 8GB RAM as standard.
How much does all this McLaren-ness cost?
