OnePlus 7T Pro
- The OnePlus 7T Pro starts at Rs 53,999 with at least 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
- The OnePlus 7 Pro price has dropped down to Rs 44,999 for the base version.
- Technically, the OnePlus 7T Pro only offers marginal upgrades over the OnePlus 7 Pro.
At an event in London, OnePlus took off the wraps from the OnePlus 7T Pro, which comes in as the upgrade to the OnePlus 7 Pro from a few months ago. The 7T Pro is part of the new OnePlus 7T series offering the newer Snapdragon 855 Plus chip as standard across the range. Additionally, OnePlus has come up with more refinements for the new phones and the 7T Pro gets some too, which may not seem as drastic as the OnePlus 7T's but just enough to christen it the T upgrade to the original model.
I have been using the OnePlus 7T Pro for a couple of days and I am fairly impressed with the phone. But that was and still is the case with the OnePlus 7 Pro. On paper, OnePlus will show that the 7T Pro is a superior phone and there's no doubt about that. It has a more powerful chip, faster charging system and a slightly revamped camera, and hence, the OnePlus 7T Pro seems like the obvious choice.
But the OnePlus 7 Pro is still selling and those who have it are facing the buyer dilemma as to whether they made a mistake buying the slightly older model. Well, if you are troubled, the next few paras will help you with your dilemma.
So what's new in the OnePlus 7T Pro?
Honestly, there are just three areas where OnePlus has made the upgrades. And these are:
The Battery: which is slightly bigger at 4085mAh over the 7 Pro's 4000mAh battery. However, the battery has been reengineered, as OnePlus says, and the improvements have resulted in faster charging speeds with the same 30W Warp Charge adapter. How fast? OnePlus says its 23 per cent faster and that fast is what a OnePlus user is used to. Good upgrade OnePlus (clap clap).
New Chipset: which is technically an improved version of the chip from the 7 Pro. OnePlus has employed the Snapdragon 855 Plus, which according to Qualcomm offers 15 per cent better graphics performance and four per cent better CPU performance. And if you spend half your day playing PUBG MOBILE or Call of Duty Mobile, it's always nice to have more power in your hands.
Macro Camera: which is a new addition for shutterbugs. The OnePlus 7 Pro has great cameras and the addition of a macro camera only increases the versatility of the camera system. With the macro mode, you can shoot close up shots from as close as 2.5cm from the subject. It worked nicely on the OnePlus 7T and I only expect better results on the 7T Pro.
But is the OnePlus 7T Pro worth upgrading from the 7 Pro?
No. If you have the OnePlus 7 Pro, just stick to it, unless you are the kind of person who needs the latest phones in the pocket.
The OnePlus 7T Pro gets nice mid-life upgrades and that's a good thing for someone who wants to buy a new premium phone now. But for those who already have the 7 Pro, there's not much of a difference the new phone offers.
The OnePlus 7 Pro still has the same and brilliant 6.6-inch Quad HD+ Optic AMOLED display with the smooth 90Hz refresh rate, which is among the best mobile screens you can find to date. Notch haters will like the pop-up camera appearing only when it's required. And what compliments the great display is a super polished and smooth Oxygen OS software that in my opinion offers the best iteration of Android. And if you love taking photos, the triple rear cameras on the OnePlus 7 Pro will impress in any lighting condition and its right up with the Pixel 3 in terms of performance.
Yes, you don't get the Macro mode with the 7 Pro which doesn't make much of a difference. The Warp Charge 30 is still fast by any means and the Snapdragon 855 is practically as capable as the Snapdragon 855 Plus in the real world.
Your budget matters the most
The OnePlus 7T Pro is priced at Rs 53,999 in India and that's a good price for a powerhouse of a phone. If you can spend more than Rs 50,000, I will surely recommend the 7T Pro for all the new features it offers as a 2019 flagship phone.
However, OnePlus is still selling the OnePlus 7 Pro and it is practically the same phone as the 7T Pro, save for the faster charging, slightly more powerful chip and the macro camera. If you can live without these three improvements, the OnePlus 7 Pro starting at Rs 44,999 is much better value. You get the same modern design, the same and proven capable cameras, the buttery smooth performance and the amazing display while saving almost Rs 10,000 from the base model of the 7T Pro.
