The OnePlus 7 series was unveiled by the Shenzhen-based company back in May - the hardware arrived in two models: the standard OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro.
The latter was by the far the most premium device OnePlus has ever released - it comes with a superb display, a capable triple camera system and a gorgeous design.
OnePlus typically unveils two flagships each year - the first is normally a substantial new numbered release while the second has usually been more iterative and featured “T” branding in its name.
OnePlus’ recent T devices have slightly improved the design of their predecessor and also boasted improved specifications.
It seems the Shenzhen OEM is going to continue its precedent of releasing two flagship models each year.
Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, recently spoke with the Financial Times and confirmed the firm plans to launch another 5G handset before 2019 is over.
It has been speculated the product being discussed will be called the OnePlus 7T.
OnePlus’ next smartphone is expected to come with new internals in the form of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus - the Chinese firm always highlights the performance of its devices as a key selling point.
Qualcomm announced the 855 Plus back in July - the hardware is essentially a mid-year refresh of its Snapdragon 855 chipset that powers a number of top-tier handsets such as the OnePlus 7 and some models of the Samsung Galaxy S10.
The American semiconductor manufacturer has claimed the 855 Plus will come with a higher clock speed than its predecessor and should be more proficient when the user is performing demanding tasks such as gaming.
Announcing the new silicon Kedar Kondap, the vice president for product management at Qualcomm, said: “Snapdragon 855 Plus will raise the bar for elite gamers with the increase in CPU and GPU performance and elevate experiences for 5G, gaming, AI and XR, which is something our OEM customers look to us to deliver.Pete Lau recently confirmed OnePlus is planning to release another 5G phone this year (Image: OnePlus)
“Snapdragon 855 Plus is our most advanced mobile platform to date and will build upon the success of the 2019 Android flagship Snapdragon 855 5G mobile platform.”
If OnePlus’ next device does come with this new processor, the product could outperform its current lineup of handsets.
It is worth noting OnePlus has not confirmed what chipset will power its next 5G smartphone.
If the Chinese firm follows prior release cycles, its next flagship could arrive in October or November.
