It's been almost four years but the row over Akshay Kumar's citizenship refuses to die down. For the uninitiated, back in 2017, it had come to light that Akshay Kumar is not an Indian citizen, in fact, he holds a Canadian passport. Initially, Akshay had denied the claim and had later stated that he holds dual citizenship - of India as well as Canada. But, soon, his claim was busted as India doesn't allow dual citizenship.
For years, Akshay was trolled by netizens and fans of other superstars for not being an Indian citizen and doing patriotic as well as socially relevant films in context to India. Last year, he took to Twitter and accepted the fact that he indeed holds a Canadian passport. Later in the year, before the release of Good Newwz, Akshay also revealed at an event the reason he had taken Canadian citizenship and that he has applied for an Indian passport and will soon be a citizen of this country again.
However, that isn't stopping people from taking a dig at him.Time and again, his citizenship is brought upon by netizens be it common men or politicians. Recently, Indian National Congress leader Salman Nizami took to Twitter and praised Canadian government while criticising Indian government. He wrote, "CANADA: No one should have to worry about paying rent, buying groceries, hospital expenses. We will help Canadians financially; PM Justin Trudeau. INDIA; Modi Govt has cancelled the notification of ex- gratia & cost of hospitalisation of Coronavirus patients. SHAME!"
One of the netizen replied asking Salman to move to Canada. Salman retweeted the tweet and wrote, "My name is Salman not Akshay Kumar", taking a dig at Akshay Kumar.
Take a look at Salman Nizami's tweets below:

Akshay Kumar has not yet responded to Salman Nizami's tweet and it is highly unlikely that he will.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar's next release, Sooryavanshi, which was supposed to hit the screens on March 24 has been postponed indefinitely. The new release date will be out soon. Apart from that, Akshay will also be seen in Laxmmi Bomb and Prithviraj in 2020. And in Atrangi Re, Bell Bottom, and Bachchan Pandey, among others in 2021.
