Alisson went down late in the first half of Liverpool’s clash with Norwich on Friday evening in the Reds’ opening game of the season.
Liverpool went on to win the game 4-1 but will be fearing the worst after Alisson appeared to grimace while clutching his calf area in the 39th minute.
After the game, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Alisson would miss next week’s Super Cup final with Chelsea before describing that the Brazilian felt like he was hit by something.
"It's the calf and that's it, Klopp said. "He couldn't carry on, that's not a good sign, and we have to see. Wednesday he will not play. With all my experience I can say that already."
Second keeper Adrian came on to replace Allison, just days after the Spaniard signed for the club.
But the Liverpool Echo are reporting that the Reds may seek a short-term deal for a new keeper because Klopp doesn’t have many options in the position.
Liverpool will have to sign a free agent due to the transfer window closing on Thursday.
Alisson is still set to undergo a scan and it’s thought that Liverpool chiefs will wait for the results before making a decision.Liverpool considering signing another goalkeeper following Alisson calf injury (Image: GETTY)
Liverpool could decide to offer a deal to Andy Lonergan, who featured for Liverpool during pre-season.
The free agent was snapped up by Klopp during the summer to provide more backup during their U.S. tour.
Lonergan is already training with Liverpool at Melwood and can be signed despite the transfer window being closed because of his free agency.
Meanwhile, Kamil Grabara is on a season-long loan at Huddersfield and under-18s goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros has an elbow injury.Liverpool considering signing another goalkeeper following Alisson calf injury (Image: GETTY)Liverpool considering signing another goalkeeper following Alisson calf injury (Image: GETTY)
Youngster Caoimhin Kelleher is only just returning to action after sustaining a hand injury.
Adrian is set to start for Liverpool against Chelsea in the Super Cup final in Istanbul next week.
Kelleher will likely sit on the bench for Klopp as the Reds go in search of their first piece of silverware of the season.
Alisson signed for Liverpool last summer for £62m from Roma and, alongside Virgil van Dijk, was one of the key factors in the team’s defensive stability.
