LK Advani's First Birthday Without Sushma Swaraj's Special Cake

New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani on Friday turned 92 years old and on his birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished him on Twitter. PM lauded his contributions towards empowering Indians.

"Scholar, statesman and one of the most respected leaders, India will always cherish the exceptional contribution of Shri Lal Krishna Advani Ji towards empowering our citizens. On his birthday, I convey my greetings to respected Advani Ji and pray for his long and healthy life," PM Modi said on Twitter.

PM Modi also thanked LK Advani for all the hard work that contributed to BJP's steady rise in Indian politics over the years.

"Shri LK Advani Ji toiled for decades to give shape and strength to the BJP. If over the years, our party has emerged as a dominant pole of Indian politics, it is because of leaders like Advani Ji and the selfless Karyakartas he groomed for decades," Modi added.

PM Modi said that Advani has always been associated with values and has never compromised the core ideology of the party. "When it came to safeguarding our democracy, he was at the forefront. As a Minister, his administrative skills are universally lauded," he said.

PM Modi along with several other BJP leaders also visited Advani's residence. The list includes Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, and BJP working president JP Nadda. The one name that was missing from the list was of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who passed away in August this year. She, on Mr. Advani's birthday, use to take the cake for him every year. "Sushma ji was also a fine human being. She touched everyone with her warmth and compassionate nature. I do not recall a single year when missed brining my favourite chocolate cake to me on my birthday," Mr. Adavni said on the demise of Sushma Swaraj.

Advani was born on November 8, 1927. He is one of the founding members of the BJP and also the longest-serving president of the party.
