A Kerala High Court bench on Friday issued orders to the director of Department of Industries to plant 100 trees for the lapses in taking an appropriate decision in an appeal filed by a private firm. IAS officer K Biju was ordered to plant 100 saplings.
Justice Amit Rawal also directed the forest and wildlife department to earmark the locations for the planting of saplings. The department has been asked to inform the court after executing the order.
While hearing a petition filed by SS Chemicals, Kollam, seeking the intervention of the high court on the pending application filed in 2016 for the license before the Industries department, the court observed that the department had deliberately delayed the decision for the last three and half years.
As a penance, the bench summoned the Industries director and ordered him to plant 100 saplings on public land. K Biju, a 2006 batch IAS officer is also the son of K Krishnakutty, Minister for Water Resources in Kerala.
