OnePlus is working on its latest batch of flagship killers, but they won't be the only highlights we will see next year.
According to a rather cryptic tweet, OnePlus is planning to enter the wearables segment and it could do so with a new fitness band or a smartwatch.
The Shenzhen-based company might have rebooted its plans to launch wearables after scrapping the idea in 2015.
Here's what we understand from the tweet
The tweet by Tech Auntyji reads: "For all of you who have a fitness band right now, darlings, or are planning to acquire one shortly, I have two words: never settle."
This cryptic tip-off doesn't reveal the specifications or when we would see the said wearable, but it does refer it as a fitness band and "never settle" is a direct reference to OnePlus.
But, chances are OnePlus could be working on a smartwatch
Back in 2015, OnePlus had shared its plans about developing a smartwatch and revealed some early renders of the device with a circular watch dial. However, the project was soon scrapped.
Hence, if the company has revived its plans to enter the wearables segment, it could be that this tip-off is actually referring to the company's first smartwatch and not a fitness band.
What to expect from the OnePlus's smartwatch?
While details about the design remain unclear as of now, the early circular look might make way for the more mainstream rectangular body similar to the Apple Watch, Fitbit Versa, and Mi Watch.
Further, we expect it to run a tweaked version of Wear OS with greater compatibility with OnePlus smartphones, some health-tracking features and support OnePlus Pay, the company's upcoming payments service.
When will OnePlus smartwatch launch?
According to PhoneArena, the OnePlus smartwatch will launch alongside the OnePlus 8 series. Hence, given the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are likely to be announced around May 2020, we might see the OnePlus Watch then.
