IPL History: List of Players Who Won Emerging Player Award Since 2008

One of the biggest advantages of the Indian Premier League is that it gives the platform to the young players to display their skills. We have seen some exciting talent on board who have amazed us their skills. The young players have come up with astonishing performances and they have been awarded the Emerging player of the tournament.

The young players get the opportunity to show their skills in front of the jam-packed crowd. In IPL 2019, there are four conditions which a player should fulfil to be eligible for the Emerging player award.

These are:

Should be born on or after 1 April 1993.

Should have played 5 or fewer Test matches or 20 or less ODI’s.

Should have played in 25 or less IPL matches (as of the start of the season).

Should have not previously won the Emerging Player Award.

Here are the Emerging Players of the IPL since 2008:

2008: Shreevats Goswami – Royal Challengers Bangalore

Shreevats Goswami. BCCI

Wicketkeeper-batsman Shreevats Goswami had won the maiden Emerging player of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Goswami scored 82 runs in three innings which included a fifty and man of the match award.

2009: Rohit Sharma – Deccan Chargers.

Rohit Sharma came up with a fine performance in the second season of the league. The flamboyant batsman scored 362 runs in 16 innings and had also scalped 11 wickets in the seaosn.

2010: Saurabh Tiwary – Mumbai Indians

The southpaw batsman had a sublime season for the Mumbai Indians in 2010. The southpaw batsman scored 419 runs in the 16 matches with the help of three fifties.

2011: Iqbal Abdullah – Kolkata Knight Riders

Iqbal Abdullah. BCCI

The southpaw spinner came up with his best in the Indian Premier League. Iqbal Abdullah scalped 16 wickets in the 15 matches he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

2012: Mandeep Singh – Kings XI Punjab

The Punjab batsman Mandeep Singh had a great season with the bat in 2012. The right-hander amassed 432 runs in the 16 matches of the season with an average of 27 and also scored two fifties in the season.

2013: Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals

The stylish batsman showed that he has a lot to offer in IPL 2013. Sanju Samson scored 206 runs in 10 innings and also affected six stumpings in the season for Rajasthan Royals.

2014: Axar Patel – Kings XI Punjab

Axar Patel impressed with his bowling performance in IPL 2014. The southpaw spinner scalped 17 wickets in as many matches at a fine average of 23.83. Thus, he was instrumental in taking his team to the final of the league.

2015: Shreyas Iyer – Delhi Capitals


The right-hander showed that he is going to be the future of Indian cricket. Iyer impressed while playing for the Delhi franchise in his maiden season of the league as he scored 439 runs in 14 games. Iyer is currently the captain of the side.

2016: Mustafizur Rahman – Sunrisers Hyderabad


Mustafizur Rahman was right on the money in the IPL 2016 edition. The southpaw seamer impressed with his variations especially the slower one and snared 17 wickets in the 16 matches. Thus, he was instrumental in taking Sunrisers Hyderabad to glory.

2017: Basil Thampi – Gujarat Lions


Kerala fast bowler Basil Thampi impressed with his brisk pace in IPL 2017. Thampi had hit the straps with his bowling and bowled accurate yorkers and bouncers. The pacer inflicted 11 wickets in 12 matches of the season.

2018: Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals


Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant caught the eyeballs with his pyrotechnics. The southpaw batsman accumulated 684 runs which were the second highest in the season. Pant scored five fifties and one century in the season.

2019: Shubman Gill – Kolkata Knight Riders

The 19-year old  Shubman Gill has been the talk of the town after the Under-19 World Cup. Gill scored 296 runs at an average of 32.89 as he batted at the top of his game. The right-hander got some opportunities to bat at the top of the order and he was able to grab his chance with both hands.
