Customs officials at Pune International Airport

The customs office of Pune International Airport has shared a report to the media about gold seizure worth approximately Rs 20 lakh from a woman passenger who flew from Dubai to Pune by Spicejet airlines.

Vaishali Patange, the joint commissioner informed that on the basis of intelligence, officers of Pune International Airport intercepted, the accused Mariyam Mohammed Salim Shaikh of Mumbai under a reasonable belief that she was carrying contraband goods.

After due process and assistance of the medical team, the rectum concealed gold paste was recovered during the medical examination of the accused.

Three capsules covered with black adhesive tape concealed in the rectum of the said passenger were recovered.

The weight of the gold paste was 642.00 gms valued at Rs 19,98,138.

Further investigation is underway.

The attempted smuggling of gold has been thwarted as a result of vigilant monitoring and alertness shown by custom officials at Pune International Airport.

During this seizure operation, further investigation as per customs act 1962 is under progress.

The customs officials have appealed passengers to report to customs of any suspicious persons and baggage at any international airport as it is a service to the nation.


The officials warned the accused and other passengers that body concealment of carrier contraband materials is risky, painful and fatal for the life of the carrier.
