Goa minister calls people sleeping outside the airport scum
India is a country where we are taught to treat guests as god. Atithi Devo Bhava. However, vice-president and spokesperson of the Goa Forward Party, Durgadas Kamat, seems to have missed those childhood lessons. His recent tweet is proof of that.
Kamat took to his official Twitter account to share an image of the Goa airport during the early hours of the day. The minister captioned his tweet, "Scene at Goa Airport. Do we need such cheap tourist in Goa? Goa Airport should act on this. We don't need scum like these to visit Goa. We need quality tourist, who will come, spend & enjoy Goa & its beauty. #BrandGoa cannot be compromised at any cost."
The people in the photo, early-morning flyers, were referred to as 'scum' and 'cheap' by the minister. Kamat is vice-president and spokesperson of the Goa Forward Party, a three-year-old regional political party. The party stands for 'Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn' (Goa, Goans and Goan ethos). The 'Goan ethos' that Kamat displayed with his tweet has left Twitter furious.
Netizens also responded to Kamat's tweet saying that this scene was a result of the shortcomings in the infrastructure of the airport and the state in general.
