Coronavirus Lockdown: A Wedding In UP Through Facetime, Last Resort
New Delhi: In Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi, a couple decided to marry over Facetime app, their last resort as they couldn't organize a wedding ceremony because of lockdown imposed by the Prime Minister in the wake to fight the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The bride, Mehjabeen, with her immediate family and groom Hamid, with his family members remained in their respective houses, indoors and performed wedding rituals.
The couple's houses were at a distance of about 15 kilometers. Through video conferencing, the cleric solemnized the 'nikah' and the families held mini-celebrations in their homes.
The groom said that there was no way to take the Baraat (wedding procession) out due to the lockdown and this was the only way to had a wedding.
"The lockdown took place and there was no way in which we could take the 'baraat' out. We discussed the issue and decided that the wedding would not be postponed and would be held at all costs," Mr. Hamid said.
The groom added, "After the lockdown is lifted, I will bring my bride home and, perhaps, have a bigger celebration than".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced "Curfew-like" lockdown in India on Tuesday evening over a televised broadcast and appealed to the nation to practice 'Social-distancing' as a measure to stop the chain of transmission. In India positive coronavirus cases crossed 600 with 10 deaths so far.
