- The design, folding mechanism and MIUI adaptation have been done by Xiaomi completely.
- The folding display has been developed in conjunction with Xiaomi's other supply partners.
- The folding phone will have three modes - double folded, single folded and tablet form.
Do you remember the video shared by Xiaomi a few weeks ago? The one where Xiaomi's President Bin Lin showed of a working prototype of a foldable smartphone? The idea of a foldable smartphone with the screen folding out from both sides came across as a slightly more sensible option than the ones we were subjected to till now. However, the device was a prototype and didn't answer many questions. Now, according to a media report, Xiaomi has spoken out about the device, regarding all the technologies that its folding smartphone features.
If the report from LetsGoDigital is to be believed, Xiaomi has spoken more about the folding smartphone that it showcased last month. In an official statement, Xiaomi says that the folding smartphone just doesn't have to rely on a folding display. In fact, a lot of other technologies had to be developed to make the folding phone feasible.
Xiaomi says that it is the first company in the world to bring a dual-folding smartphone. The folding display has been developed in conjunction with Xiaomi's other supply partners. However, all the other important technologies housed in the folding smartphone have been developed in-house. The design, folding mechanism and MIUI adaptation have been done by Xiaomi completely.
The folding phone will have three modes - double folded, single folded and tablet form. The folding phone team has undergone all the challenges that others have faced but Xiaomi had researched a lot for making the foldable mechanism more rugged and durable. The phone houses a lot of breakthrough technologies to achieve the folding form factor and Xiaomi says it will keep on improving the user experience.
Based on the concept video shared by Xiaomi last month, LetsGoDigital also created some high-resolution renders of the folding device. The renders show nothing new, except for the fact that we can see the device in better clarity. The renders show an adaptive MIUI interface in various states of the fold. The display will have very slim bezels with all the sensors embedded in them. The power button resides on the top while the USB-C port rests at the bottom.
So far, Xiaomi has itself agreed that the folding smartphone is still a concept and it could be a while before we could see a folding Xiaomi smartphone. Meanwhile, Samsung will be unveiling its foldable smartphone on the same day as the Galaxy S10. Huawei is also supposed to showcase a folding smartphone at the MWC 2019.
