71st Republic Day was celebrated with gaiety and fervour across the State today. Functions were organized at State, District and Sub-Divisional level to mark the occasion. Hoisting of Flags, impressive march-past, cultural programmes were highlights of the functions organized throughout the State.
Governor Bandaru Dattatraya unfurled the National Flag and took the salute during a march past at the State-level Republic Day function held at historic Ridge Maidan, Shimla.
The Governor inspected the parade and took salute from an impressive march past. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was also present on the occasion. The customary grand parade was led by Capt. Nikhil Kumar, 2nd Naga Regiment.
The March past was presented by contingents of Army, State Police, Home Guards, Fire Brigade, Ex-servicemen, Bharat Scouts and Guides, NCC cadets and Postal Services for the first time. A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion. Tableaux highlighting various development activities of different departments were also part of Republic Day celebration. Later, the Governor and Chief Minister also released balloons with the name 'Ananya' in air giving the message of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao.
Chief Whip Narinder Bhagta, MLAs Balbir Verma, Vinod Kumar and Vikramaditya Singh, Mayor Satya Kaundal, Chief Secretary Anil Kumar Khachi, Director General of Police S.R.Mardi, other senior Civil, Police and Military officers were also present on the occasion amongst others.
Meanwhile,Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur congratulated noted writer and former Professor of Himachal Pradesh University and Head of Sanskrit Department Prof. Abhiraj Rajendra Mishra and noted Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for being selected for Padamshree Award, both hailing from Himachal Pradesh. He also congratulated Group Captain Gaurav Chauhan for taking part in the Republic Day Parade Fly Past ceremony in New Delhi today. He said it was a matter of great pride and honour that Group Captain Chauhan also hails from Rohru area of Shimla District.
Chief Minister said that it was an honour for the state that despite being a small hilly state two of its residents have been selected for the prestigious Padamshree award.
Flying at 450 km an hour Group Captain Chauhan flew past Rajpath in his Sukhoi MKI -30 fighter plane accompanied by highly advanced 'Netra' or early warning air surveillance plane which can detect the enemy from a distance of 400 km and destroy it.
Republic Day was also celebrated with enthusiasm and fervour in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh today. Shri L.Narayana Swamy, Hon'ble the Chief Justice unfurled the National Flag and inspected the Guard of Honour. High Court Judges, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Hon'ble Ms. Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua were also present on the occasion.
Justice D.P. Sood, Justice V.K. Sharma,retired Judges from High Court, Justice P.S.Rana, President, H.P. State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Shri Ashok Sharma, Adovcate General, Shri Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Solicitor General of India, Registrar General Sh. Virender Singh, and other Registrars, Judicial Officers posted in Shimla and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
The officers and officials of the High Court Registry, District Courts Shimla, Office of the Advocate General, H.P. Judicial Academy, H.P. State Legal Services Authority, Advocates and other Offices based in High Court premises participated in the Republic Day ceremony.
